Chapter 3: The Artifacts
Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!- Audrey Hepburn
It seemed to haunt me with it’s beautiful jewels and precise and delicate carvings that were cast in soft gold leaf. It looked just as stunning as it was in the dream and perhaps even more regal in real life.
I gasped, “T-T-This is the M-M-Mirror from my D-D-Dream!”
Ella said,”Really? But didn’t you say it was fake? And that you saw it in a magazine? Possibly.”
“I did, I know it was a dream because I woke up in my bed, not on the floor.”
“Perhaps you had really seen it magazine and the museum ordered it as a piece of art.”
“You’re probably right, Leslie, because how can you have a dream of something you never seen before and have the object follow you around?” , I laughed nervously.
“Come on guys, it probably is just a museum piece and they forgot to move it or something, after all, this is a new museum. “, Rose insisted.
“Ok let’s go, this room is starting to give me the creeps.
“Sure scaredy-cat”, joked Ella pushing me lightly.
“Hey.”, I protested and pushed Ella back.
Laughing, I left the room with my friends, leaving the mirror behind me.
For the rest of the day, we toured the museum. Taking group selfies here and there, sketching some of my favorite pieces of art, and eating lunch at Raphael's Tasty Renaissance, a diner inside the museum that served food that was similar to ones people ate in the Renaissance. There was even a little gift shop, Leonardo’s Little Inventions, that sold cheesy souvenirs like mugs that say, I am one of the few people that Visited Green Banks Museum on it’s Grand Opening. Surprisingly, they sold out real fast, by the time we reached the gift shop, there were only 5 mugs left.
“Hey look at this”, Rose shouted. We came scrambling toward her. “Look, it is a compilation of the faerie tale items. On the description, it said that an artist, Marse Fay, from Greek Banks. She had sculpted, carved, or made all of these items. She made the famous Glass Slipper, The Basket of Red Riding Hood, the Book and Feathered bookmark of Mother Goose and the wh-
“ I that a wheel?”, interrupted Ella. “Yes yes it will make sense if you hear the rest of the story,” answered Rose impatiently ” So anyways her house was burned down in a fire and only these items were recovered. The fire killed her and also burned down the rest of the collection, some including the Mirror of the Evil Queen, a lock of Rapunzel's hair, Hansel and Gretel’s bread crumbs, and the Spinning Wheel. Also it said that although the Spinning Wheel was burned up in in the fire, the actual wheel part survived.”
“ Oh so that was what the wheel was.”, Ella said.
Rose continued again, “Yeah these items survived a fire, their like artifacts! They are so prci-”
“Oh I remember this story, it was on the news 8 years ago. I didn’t know anything survived the fire, the reporter said that the house was completely burned down, with nothing but ashes there.”, commented Evie.
“I WISH YOU GUYS WOULD STOP INTERRUPTING ME! I COULD HAVE TOLD YOU ALREADY!”, Rose stomped her foot in frustration.
“ Okay, okay, jeesh, chillax bro. I am sorry and I bet Ella is too, right?”, I look over at Ella, she rolled her eyes and said ” Actually I am not sor - OWWWW” I stomped on her foot- hard and glared her. “Okay Okay, what I meant was that I am really sorry, please do continue on.”, said Ella.
“So anyways the description said most of it was donated by Brad Fay, Marse’s son two weeks ago, Brad was outside, washing and polishing those items when the fire started, Brad had ran it the house, trying to save his mother, but she had tripped on the stairs and got engulfed by the flames already. Brad saw that just a few feet in front of the fire was the wheel, it seemed to have broken off of the spinning wheel and landed where Brad brought it to safety. Brad moved to Los Angeles, where his dad lived and stayed there for eight years. But when he had heard that there would be a museum for art in Green Banks, where his mother used to live, Brad felt like it would be wrong to have his mother’s art go unnoticed, so he donated it to the Revolutionary Art Museum. Brad left Green Banks thought, because he couldn't bear the place where his mother died.’
“ Aww that is such a sad story, but interesting on too, Do you think we can investigate where Marse lived and ask around?”, asked Leslie.
“I know her address, but if we will only go if Evie wants to.After all, it is her birthday.” , Rose piped up, looked at me expectantly.
“I don’t mind, let’s go now, after all, the museum is closing at 5:40, which is”, I looked down at my watch, “ About 20 minutes from now, it is about to close anyways, Lets go.”
Walking, almost running to the nearest exit, me and my friends left the museum, We didn’t notice it then, but each of our backpacks grew a little heavier from a weight that suddenly appeared.
